Sep.3,2010If i got a dollar for each time a young person came up to me and said “I want to be a small group leader” or “I’m ready to lead, can I please be put in a leadership position” i’d probably have a few hundred dollars in the bank. Most the time when people think of leadership they seem to think:
- Authority
- Money
- Fame
- Power
- Privileges
- Benefits
- Etc
The reality is quite different from that though. I’ve heard it said that if someone WANTS to be in leadership, then that very person probably should NOT be in leadership.
Leadership IS about privileges yes, but not the same kind that most people would think of. These certain privileges are an honor to those whose hearts are right and to those who truly understand the meaning of leadership. Jesus in Mark 10:44-45 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
The privilege here is that we get to serve others. If you want to lead you MUST serve. If you don’t serve you can’t lead. Being in leadership does NOT mean to BE SERVED but rather TO SERVE!!!
