God Is…
Wow, i feel like i owe you all an apologie for not blogging in soo long. Things have been crazy around here with Encounter, Events, Fundraisers, Events Planning, Etc… (especially wedding planning haha)
As most of you know, OCC is following the ONE PRAYER series along with Craig Groeschel @ Lifechurch.tv and currently 1872 other churches all across the world in order to become Jesus’ answer to His prayer in John 17:20-24.
This year’s theme for One Prayer is: God is…
We have already looked, together as a church, at the fact that God Is: Able as well as God Is: Moving. On Monday of this week, i was working at the bakery and i was just thinking and meditating on this word of God Is… As i was pondering on this fact, something came to mind that was quite shocking to me, yet very true. I starting to think about how God Is… (in one way) UNable. Let me explain.
Though God IS very able to DO anything, BE anything and BECOME anything we need Him to be, (up to a certain extent of course), in a sense, God is very UNable as well. Numbers 23:19 clearly states that God is not a man that He should lie as well as stating the fact that He is unable to break promises.
In Joshua 9 we clearly see that God cherishes convenants and that He is a God of covenants. God is UNable to break covenant.
All throughout Scriptures we see that God is UNable to be unfaithful.
Here are a few more – God Is Unable:
- To Sin
- To Be Where Sin Is
- To Deceive
- To Go Against Free Will
- To Be Unjust
- To Be Unfair
- To Ignore His Children
- To Hate His Children
- To Break Any Commandments
- To Make Mistakes
And that is just to name a few. Let me know your thoughts!
If God cannot be where SIN is and Jesus is God, than how did Jesus dwell on earth?
Let me start by saying that when Jesus came to earth, He was born of the flesh (was made human) therefore He was to operate by the same natural laws in which we are to live by. This mean that He was no longer Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent for the time being. Now before someone quotes me as a herotic or blasphemer, let me say this. Through His Father He was able to have the strength, power, knowledge and authority needed in order to do what He came to do.
Jesus, just like any of us had to call on God daily in order for to receive the necessary power He needed to do His business. Since Jesus was sinless God was obviously with Jesus. The Bible says Matthew 27:45 From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. 46About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi,[c] lama sabachthani?”—which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” It has been debated in prior years that this statement made from Jesus was blasphemous and that He was actualy commiting sin which would lead to Jesus being a sinner. But what actualy happened was the fact that Jesus, being the Lamb of God, was to be slain for the sin of the world. While He was on that cross, the sins that me and you and all the world have ever done or were going ever be done was basically thrown on Jesus that day.
Now with all this said, the reason while Jesus said in verse 46 “About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi,[c] lama sabachthani?”—which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”" it wasn’t God the Father had abandoned Him but rather He just couldn’t be where sin was. Since Jesus was dying with OUR sins, God could not be there with Him. The beauty regarding all this was the fact that Jesus was forsaken by God so that we wouldn’t have to be.
Hope this helps Toby. Sorry for the overly delayed response
